Leo beat Low Grade B-Cell Lymphoma in the fall of 2012; however, while traveling to his home town, El Paso, in the summer of 2015, Leo fell ill with excruciating pain in his abdomen. After several painful days, Leo left El Paso and returned to DC for a routine oncologist appointment where he learned his worst fear had come true: the tumor had returned. The doctors now diagnosed him with Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma.

In a state of disbelief, Leo started treatment yet again. With the strength of his nurses and his daughter, Sarah, at his side, Leo began his second battle against lymphoma. Although chemotherapy was hard at times, Leo was encouraged by his daughter's mantra: "You were given this LIFE because you are STRONG enough to live it!"

Leo was released from treatment so he could join his daughter and the rest of the "#WeLoveLeo" Team to walk in the 2015 Light The Night in Reston, VA. When Leo walked into the Light The Night environment, he was overwhelmed with the celebratory atmosphere of the evening. Seeing the community come together to support those fighting and those lost was energizing and breath-taking. The sea of lanterns illuminated the common theme of the evening: Together, we can conquer cancer. Today, Leo and Sarah look forward to walking together in October 2017!
