Shout It Out!
Let everyone know that you are trying to find a cure for blood cancer! Post on social media that you have signed up for the Light The Night event and ask people to join you. If they can’t join, see if they are willing to make a donation by posting your link to your fundraising page on Facebook.
GOOOOOOOOOOAL!
Every Champion started with a goal. The best place to start is trying to beat the national average of $300. The basic steps you take in the next few weeks will ensure that you will reach $300. If you want to be ambitious, then aim for $1000 and become one of our Bright Light Members. Now, if you want to stand out in a crowd, aim for our Club 29 status and fundraise or donate $2900 or more. Also included is a “funding” goal worksheet to help participants focus on reaching their fundraising goal. If you want to know the steps to achieve that status, please reach out to us at (714) 481-5641.
Light Up Letters
One of the most basic things to do is write a letter to your friends, family, and colleagues letting them know why you are participating in Light The Night. This letter will let them know that every dollar is going to find a cure for blood cancer. A template of the letter is included for your convenience. Remember the bigger your mailing list is, the more opportunity you will have to find people who would like to donate.
Kick It Up A Notch!
The best way to rally troops and have people help donate or fundraise is to have a Kick Off party. It can be something simple such as an ice cream social or backyard BBQ. Gather them together and let them know why you are participating and how much you would like to fundraise. This would be a good time to have a mini raffle to help with your fundraising. A Light The Night staff or representative would be happy to come and speak at your kickoff event. Please make sure to notify us in advance as our calendars fill up quickly.
Doubling Up!
Many don’t know but there are places that will match a certain amount of funds that are donated to an organization. All you have to do is apply. Ask your company if they have a matching gift program or click on the link below and search to see. Please be aware that some companies prefer to have you come in and ask for the application. https://www.lls.org/ways-to-help/corporate-matching-gifts
Host an Event- (Million ways to fundraise flyer included)
Want to help raise funds with friends and family during a fun activity but don’t know where to start? Contact Jennifer Alcorn at Jennifer.Alcorn@lls.org or call her at (714) 481-5613. She will help you focus on where to start and supply you with the tools needed to execute a great event.
Change It Up a Bit
We all have loose change hanging around. Hold a "Fill The Jar" event in your office and challenge people to bring in as much loose change as they can in a two week period. The person with the most change in their jar wins a prize.
Celebrate Good Times
Celebrate! Light The Night is just a few weeks away. You are on your way to reaching your goal. Host a party to celebrate the upcoming Light The Night event. Charge a cover fee at the door. Make sure all guests know that donations go to LLS. Repost your link on Facebook and/or in emails letting people know how close you are to your goal. Remind your friends and family that every donation helps us take a step closer to finding a cure for blood cancer.
It is all about the follow-up
Follow up on your letter and/or email. Call or send a reminder to the people who haven’t donated yet. Let them know that the Light The Night event is coming up and you need their help to reach your goal! Share with them how much you’ve raised to date and let them know you are still raising money to find a cure for blood cancer!
