Laura was diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma in 2013, while she was living in Hawaii. Her baby boy was only fourteen months old. Laura went through ABVD chemotherapy treatment and eighteen rounds of radiation. She went into remission and began rebuilding her life after cancer.
She became a full time working single mom and after about two months didn’t feel right again. Laura went to the doctor and was told she had recurrent Hodgkin Lymphoma. Laura went into treatment again, having an autologous stem cell transplant in 2015. Laura is happy to say she has been remission since! She moved to Northern Virginia with her son in August 2017 and contacted LLS to get involved as a volunteer. She has volunteered for Student Series, has volunteered and walked in Light the Night and has been helping in Patient Access as a Community Outreach Volunteer.
Laura is passionate about helping LLS reach more patients and families and in continuing to advance blood cancer research. Laura most recently helped serve as an LLS Ambassador joining LLS and Subaru staff at Inova Loudoun Hospital to help deliver blankets and messages of hope to area cancer patients. Thank you, Laura, for sharing your story and for being a wonderful volunteer!
