Becca was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on July 23rd, 2019. She will never forget that day.
Becca and her family had mixed emotions upon hearing the news. After months of dealing with uncontrollable bone and joint pain, they were relieved to finally have an answer to the cause of her pain. No one ever wants to hear that their child has cancer, but they knew that she had a good chance for a CURE thanks to the great advances in research for ALL. They were ready to fight and finally get Becca feeling better. However, at the same time, they were devastated. No one ever expects this journey for their child. And they knew it would be a difficult road ahead.
Becca and her family feel so BLESSED to be surrounded by a great community of support. Last year at this time, Becca was literally fighting for her life in the midst of intense chemotherapy treatment. Her friends raised a lantern in her honor during the Harrisburg Light the Night. That act was symbolic of all of their family, friends, and community lifting them up during the most difficult time in their lives. They are grateful for LLS, their life saving research, and for shining light in the dark places of cancer. They have HOPE! Becca is now in the maintenance stage of her therapy for the next 15 months.
Being an honored hero for Central PA is her chance to give back to the community who’s given her so much! Together, we can fight blood cancers!
