At 11 years old Travis was an athletic, articulate, happy kid with high energy. After attending 6th grade camp in early October 2014, his parents noticed that he was a bit run down, thinking he may have caught a little something from a bunk mate. But on October 20, 2014, while running around with friends at school, Travis’s friend noticed a lump on his neck when he turned his head. His friends on the playground encouraged him to go to the nurse. Not knowing what was wrong, but that something didn’t look right, the nurse sent Travis home that morning and Travis’s mom got him in to see his doctor that afternoon. The rest is a whirlwind, being admitted that night to the hospital for Travis to begin treatment for T-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (T-ALL).
Now 2 years and 4 months later, Travis a 13-year-old 8th grader, and is currently in the “maintenance” phase of his treatment … daily chemo pills and monthly chemo infusions. His target date for no more chemo is 2/12/2018!
